Gators strengthen staff with Joker Phillips

One of the key factors in Florida's turnaround this season was some of the decisions coach Will Muschamp made during the offseason on his staff.

He brought in offensive coordinator Brent Pease, offensive line coach Tim Davis and strength and conditioning coach Jeff Dillman -- all three excellent hires.

Muschamp is off to another strong start heading into this offseason with the hiring of former Kentucky head coach Joker Phillips as the Gators' receivers coach and recruiting coordinator.

Getting more consistency and more big plays out of the receivers will be a must for the Gators next season if they're going to continue to grow offensively. Phillips has spent 18 years as a receivers coach at five different schools.

But over and above his ability to coach receivers, Phillips will make an already strong recruiting staff that much stronger. Having been in the SEC for the last 11 seasons, including the last 10 at Kentucky, Phillips knows this league and also knows what it takes to recruit in this league. He's a disciplinarian and doesn't put up with a lot of nonsense. His approach to handling players will fit perfectly with the way Muschamp runs his program.
