Status check: Where each team stands

With an offseason of trades, signings and re-signings already underway, it behooves us to take a step back and lay out where each MLB team stands -- and what its current big-picture objective is -- as we head toward the winter meetings in Nashville, Tennessee, set for early December. AL East

Baltimore Orioles

Status: Contender

The Orioles are facing a wide spread of players potentially leaving via free agency, including their best power hitter, Chris Davis, their best left-handed starter, Wei-Yin Chen, and their best reliever, Darren O'Day. The O's have made re-signing Davis one of their top offseason priorities. The Orioles have money to spend, and owner Peter Angelos has given general manager Dan Duquette the green light to play in free agency this winter with a wish list that includes a power bat and a mid-rotation starter.
