Smith: Titans' staff most impressive ever

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Titans president and CEO Tommy Smith has heard Ken Whisenhunt talk of hosting a playoff game and is excited about the possibility of Tennessee doing so.

Smith is in his first full season in his roles following the passing last fall of the only owner the franchise ever had, his father-in-law, Bud Adams.

In this chat with Amy Wells of the team’s website, he reiterated a lot of themes: The team got stale and can’t fall back into its old ways; The day Whisenhunt was hired, 1/14/14, is a motto for when things changed for good; The team wants to communicate more directly with fans and season-ticket holders.

Three quotes of note:

  • “This is the most impressive [coaching] staff I’ve seen in 40 years in our organization.”

  • “What more can I do? You tell me. I’m open to alternatives. We want to hear from our fans. We do listen."

  • “I’m very committed to growing the company. Listening to what needs to be done, that’s what I am expected to do and that’s why I am here.”

Smith remains refreshingly different than Adams, and the public persona he has displayed is encouraging.
