Ruston Webster: Top of draft board won't change much in next round of meetings

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Titans set their initial draft board before the NFL scouting combine in late February in Indianapolis.

Not much near the top will change when they have a final set of pre-draft meetings in mid-April, general manager Ruston Webster said on The Midday 180, my radio show in Nashville.

"The board is already set to some degree," he said. "Our scouts will come in roughly two weeks before the draft. We'll meet with the offensive staff, go through all those positions, same with the defensive staff after that and our special teams coaches. And then it'll start just really solidifying the board and the plan for draft day."

I asked how much things will change on that board barring an arrest or a newly torn ACL.

"Not a lot," he said. "It'll change some. I think most of the players are in the proper grade area. There might be a player here or there. They'll be some players who helped themselves in workouts, but that is as much guys that were maybe were free agents that now you might see as a draftable player because they ran a little better than you thought or something along those lines.

"You're talking about late draft picks, you're not talking about high picks or first-, second-, third-, fourth-round type guys. So it won't change a whole lot. The biggest thing is to make sure everybody has had their say and we're on a similar page with the players we like and the fit for what we are going to do and what the plan is for them."

Webster also talked about Steve Underwood now working as the interim president/CEO, his relationship with Amy Adams Strunk and some of the free-agent additions to the team.
