Cameron Brate: Thanksgiving at Harvard includes stuffing, not just studies

TAMPA, Fla. -- Even at Harvard, they have time to trade textbooks for a little turkey.

On Wednesday, Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Cameron Brate, a Harvard alum, was part of a light-hearted exchange with defensive tackle Gerald McCoy in the locker room. McCoy approached teammates and asked about their favorite Thanksgiving foods for a video posted by the team. When he reached Brate, the exchange went this way:

“Do you guys celebrate Thanksgiving at Harvard?” said McCoy, who went to Oklahoma.

“Yeah,” Brate said with a smile, “we celebrate Thanksgiving at Harvard.”

“You sure? Or do you study on Thanksgiving?”

“No, we didn’t study. I was actually home.”

“OK, so your favorite food was not a book?”

“It was not a book. I would eat while reading, though.”

On Thursday, McCoy reflected on his discovery that Harvard students have time for holiday fun.

“I do a show, Dini’s Den, every week, and for the holidays we always do a special show,” he said. “So I was just walking around the locker room asking the players their favorite food. And I saw Cam in the middle of an interview, so I said, ‘Why not?’

“I didn’t know that they celebrated Thanksgiving at Harvard. Take a break from studying.”
