Jameis Winston: No joke, Matt Hasselbeck makes bald look good

TAMPA, Fla. -- Nineteen years separate quarterbacks Jameis Winston and Matt Hasselbeck. When young meets "old" on Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium, the whippersnapper will hold respect for how the sage veteran has kept up his appearance.

"One thing about playing against old people is I could say that he was balding, but we've got so many bald-headed 20-year-olds on this roster, I can't even make [a] funny joke about it," Winston said Wednesday. "He looks better at the age of 40 than some of the young guys on our team."

The matchup between Winston's Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Hasselbeck's Indianapolis Colts will feature the NFL's youngest and oldest current starting quarterbacks, with Winston at age 21 and Hasselbeck at age 40.

The gulf in experience between the two is extreme. Winston has played in 10 career regular-season games; Hasselbeck has appeared in 204. Winston has thrown 314 regular-season passes and Hasselbeck has thrown 5,182. Winston has 2,405 regular-season passing yards and Hasselbeck has 35,656.

But their sense of humor doesn't appear to be as different. When asked to respond to Winston's comment, Hasselbeck joked about his struggle to keep a full head of hair.

"That's very kind of him," Hasselbeck said. "I did not look good as a young player. I was balding. I'm bald now. But I was balding when I was a second- and third-year player in Green Bay and balding in Seattle, and it was just a really bad look. A good friend should have come to me and said, 'Hey, let it go, man. Shave the head,' or something. I had a bad look going when I was younger. I set the bar low."
