Sánchez's blast highlights a huge night of homers

Home runs were the story of Friday night, with Yankees rookie Gary Sánchez hitting yet another one in New York's 14-4 win over the Orioles.

According to Elias Sports Bureau research, Sánchez is the first rookie to record 10 home runs and 20 RBIs in his first 20 games of a season since RBI became an official stat in 1920.

Elias also notes that Sánchez's 10 homers are tied for the third-most in team history in a player's first 20 games of a season, including midseason acquisitions. The only players to hit more are Alex Rodriguez with 14 in his first 20 games of 2007, and Glenallen Hill with 11 after coming over in a trade from the Cubs in 2000.

Sánchez is tied with several names you have heard of with the 10 homers: 1921 Babe Ruth, 1956 Mickey Mantle and 1974 Graig Nettles.

Sánchez is already seventh on the Yankees in homers this season. At his current rate -- if he had played as many games as team leader Carlos Beltrán -- Sánchez would be leading the majors with 50 home runs.

Machado gets to 30

But Sánchez was hardly the only player to hit a notable homer on Friday night. In the other dugout of the Yankees' blowout win, Manny Machado recorded his ninth career multihomer game and third this season.

Machado's homers were the 30th and 31st of the season for the infielder. With Chris Davis and Mark Trumbo already having reached the 30-homer mark, this is the first time in franchise history that three different Orioles have hit 30 homers in the same season ... and of course it's only August.

With Josh Donaldson also hitting his 30th on Friday, there are now 14 big leaguers with at least 30 long balls on the season. That marks the most players with 30 homers before September since 2006.

Correa the greatest homer-hitting Astros shortstop

Carlos Correa hit his first career game-tying home run in the ninth inning or later before Evan Gattis won it for the Astros with his second career walk-off homer.

Correa's homer was the 41st of his career and his 40th as a shortstop, five more than any other shortstop in franchise history, according to Elias research. Correa has played just 223 games in his career and doesn't turn 22 for another month. Next on that list is Adam Everett, who hit 35 homers in 632 games at shortstop for the Astros.

Pujols continues to make history

Albert Pujols moved another step closer to climbing up the all-time home run list by hitting his 585th career homer. That puts him one behind Frank Robinson for ninth on the all-time list.

This is Pujols' 15th season with at least 25 homers, tying him with Babe Ruth, Frank Robinson, Reggie Jackson and Alex Rodriguez for the third-most such campaigns. Only Barry Bonds and Hank Aaron have had more 25-homer seasons.

This latest long ball gives Pujols his 13th career season with at least 25 homers and 100 RBIs. That's second-most in MLB history, trailing only the 14 such seasons from Alex Rodriguez.
