After a surprisingly easy Game 6 win against the Boston Celtics, the Atlanta Hawks get the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

The Hawks lost to the Cavaliers in all three meetings during the regular season. LeBron James averaged 27.3 points in those games, including a 34-point effort on April 11.

So which Hawks defender will draw the assignment of guarding James? Against the Detroit Pistons, James was 7-of-21 against the bigger Marcus Morris. The five Hawks frontcourt defenders all had strong series' against the Celtics. The toughest to shoot against was Kent Bazemore (Celtics players were 14-of-46, 30 percent) against him. The Celtics shot 34 percent when the primary defender was Al Horford, 35 percent against Paul Millsap and 36 percent against Mike Scott. The only player they had success against was Thabo Sefolosha (45 percent).

Those five frontcourt defenders contested 72 percent of the Celtics’ shots. In his series against the Pistons, James shot 39 percent on contested shots, including 2-of-15 from 3-point range.

Regardless of who guards James, this series will be a major challenge for the Hawks. They are 0-7 against the Cavaliers dating back to the 2015 postseason, were outscored by almost 12 points per game and outrebounded by 11 rebounds per game.
