Jake Arrieta allowed a single to Jonathan Villar, the first batter he faced Thursday after his no-hitter April 21. Arrieta ended up walking the bases loaded in the first inning but got out of the situation without allowing a run. The Cubs right-hander became the seventh pitcher -- out of 36 no-hitters -- since the beginning of 2008 to follow a no-hitter by allowing a hit to the first batter he faced in his next start that season. Below, we take a look at how those outings ended up: Tim Lincecum After no-hitting the Padres in San Diego on July 13, 2013, Lincecum faced the Cincinnati Reds on July 22. Shin-Soo Choo led off the game by doubling against Lincecum in a game the Reds won 11-0. Lincecum allowed nine hits, including home runs to Devin Mesoraco, Choo and Jay Bruce -- and eight earned runs in 3 2/3 innings. Homer Bailey Adron Chambers of the St. Louis Cardinals led off Bailey’s first start after his no-hitter, on Oct. 3, 2012, with a single. Coming off his no-hitter of the Pirates on Sept. 28, Bailey allowed four hits in four scoreless innings, striking out six and walking none, as the Reds, who were headed to the National League playoffs, lost 1-0. Félix Hernández In his first start since a perfect game against the Tampa Bay Rays on Aug. 15, 2012, Hernandez allowed a lead-off single to Jason Kipnis of the Cleveland Indians. Hernandez gave up a total of seven hits and one run in 7 2/3 innings on Aug. 21, helping the Mariners beat the Cleveland Indians 5-1. Matt Cain Cain’s no-hitter was a perfect game against the Houston Astros on June 13, 2012. On June 18 against the Los Angeles Angels, Mike Trout led off with a single and ended up scoring in the first inning. Cain got the win, allowing three earned runs in five innings of a 5-3 Giants victory. Carlos Zambrano Zambrano’s no-hitter of the Astros on Sept. 14, 2008, was the first for the Chicago Cubs in 36 years. On Sept. 19, Skip Schumaker of the Cardinals led off with a double, and Zambrano was chased after allowing six runs and eight hits in 1 2/3 innings. Jon Lester
