Curry leaves LeBron behind on 3-point list

ESPN Stats & Information

Stephen Curry passed another NBA great on Friday night in helping the Golden State Warriors improve their record to 17-0.

Curry was 11-of-20 from the field – including 9-of-16 on 3-pointers – while scoring 41 points in the Warriors’ 135-116 victory over the Suns. For the fourth time this season, Curry did not play in the fourth quarter.

The reigning MVP started the day with 1,269 3-pointers, five behind LeBron James for 35th place on the NBA all-time list. James made two 3-pointers in the Cavaliers’ win over the Hornets, and Curry passed him with his eighth 3-pointer of the game.

For what it’s worth, Curry has played in 433 games, compared with James’ 927.

Curry started the season 50th on the NBA all-time list for made 3-pointers, meaning he has climbed 15 spots in 17 games. He has 87 3-point field goals this season, 24 more than any other player through 17 games in NBA history.

It was the fifth game of Curry’s career in which he made at least nine 3-pointers. Elias Sports Bureau research shows that that ties J.R. Smith for the most games with nine or more 3s. Kobe Bryant is third with four such games.

Curry reached the 40-point mark for the fifth time this season, the most by a Warriors player in one season since Latrell Sprewell had six in 1996-97.

Triple-double for Green

For the third time in the past 40 seasons, the Warriors had one player reach 40 points and another earn a triple-double in the same game (source: Elias Sports Bureau). Draymond Green had 14 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists Friday. He accounted for 27 points with his assists, five of which led to made 3-pointers.

The Warriors made 15 3-pointers in the first half, the most in any half in NBA history. The Warriors finished with 22 3-pointers, 15 of them uncontested. Six of Curry’s 3-pointers were uncontested.
