Clady's injury adds to Broncos' offensive line shuffle

It was reported Thursday that Denver Broncos left tackle Ryan Clady tore his ACL and is likely to miss the 2015 season.

Clady, who has been with Denver for his entire career since being drafted with the 12th pick in 2008, had started 16 games in six of his seven NFL seasons. He missed 14 games in 2013 with a Lisfranc injury.

Clady is a two-time First-Team All-Pro selection, having been named to the team in 2009 and 2012. Since the start of the 2009 season, Joe Thomas (five) is the only offensive tackle who has been named First-Team All-Pro more times than Clady.

So where does the latest injury leave the Broncos if their four-time Pro Bowl left tackle misses the 2015 season?

Five Broncos offensive linemen played at least 500 snaps last season. If Clady misses the season, right tackle Louis Vasquez is the only one who will be protecting Peyton Manning in Week 1 of the 2015 season. Center Will Montgomery (Bears), guard Orlando Franklin (Chargers) and guard Manny Ramirez (Lions) are all on new teams this season.

Though Manning's quick release is a big reason he is able to stay upright, the Broncos' offensive line also helped Denver lead the NFL in fewest sacks allowed last season (17).

The Broncos allowed quarterback pressure on the fewest percentage of dropbacks (13.8 percent) in the NFL last season.

It's not just the pass protection that could suffer without Clady. The Broncos averaged 4.8 yards per rush to the left side last season, compared with 4.1 down the middle and 4.3 to the right side.

Overall, the Broncos ranked 20th in yards per rush last season, but 10th when rushing to the left side.

On Thursday afternoon, the Broncos reportedly signed tackle Ryan Harris, who started 15 games for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2014. Harris is familiar with new Broncos coach Gary Kubiak, as he played for the Texans in the 2012 and 2013 seasons.
