Stats to know: Duke wins national title

This national championship for Duke was won through perseverance and poise, from a pair of freshmen who played like seniors in the game's most important moments.

The Blue Devils' win over Wisconsin secured Duke's fifth national championship. That ties the Blue Devils with North Carolina and Indiana for the third-most in NCAA history.

The history

Mike Krzyzewski has won all five of those titles as head coach. That's the second-most championship game wins for a Division I men's coach, halfway to John Wooden's 10.

Duke has played three national championship games in Indianapolis and won them all.

But this is the first time the Blue Devils beat a No. 1 seed in the title game in four tries.

The ACC is now 6-1 all-time against the Big Ten in national championship games. The Big Ten has lost its past five title game appearances

The freshmen shall lead them

Duke's freshmen scored 60 of the team's 68 points -- the most by a group of freshmen in a title game. The four Blue Devils freshmen outscored the four Badgers seniors 60-28.

Tyus Jones, the Most Outstanding Player at the Final Four, paced the Blue Devils with 23 points, including 19 in the second half. That's the most points scored by a Duke freshman in a championship game.

The 23 points were one shy of Jones' career high.

Jones' teammate, Grayson Allen, was Duke's eighth-leading scorer this season, averaging 4.0 points per game. He had 16 points in the title game, the second-highest scoring game in his career.

Allen had five baskets Monday night; he totaled five baskets in his previous six games combined. The Blue Devils outscored the Badgers by 13 points in Allen's 21 minutes on the floor, and were outscored by eight points in his 19 minutes on the bench.

Kaminsky valiant in defeat

Frank Kaminsky had 21 points and 12 rebounds. He's the first player with a 20-10 game in a national championship loss since Greg Oden had one for Ohio State against Florida in 2007.

Kaminsky actually had back-to-back 20-10 games, the first player to do so in the semifinals and championship game since Carmelo Anthony for Syracuse in 2003.

The only other players to have a pair of 20-10s at a Final Four in the past 30 years are Danny Manning for Kansas and Chris Webber for Michigan.

Duke's defense denies Dekker

The shots that fell for Sam Dekker throughout the national semifinal win versus Kentucky did not go down against Duke.

Dekker shot 30 percent from 3-point range during the regular season but had made 15 of 30 3-pointers in the NCAA tournament prior to Monday.

He went 0-for-6 from 3-point range in the championship game.

Wisconsin averaged 1.05 points per possession Monday, its worst offensive efficiency in its final 12 games. The Badgers entered the game averaging 121.6 points per 100 possessions, the most efficient offense of the past 15 seasons.
