Rams lose scout to New York Jets

EARTH CITY, Mo. -- It's common practice in the time after the NFL draft for scouting departments to go through a series of changes. The St. Louis Rams aren't having any sort of drastic overhaul but recently lost one member of their staff to the New York Jets.

Brian Shields, who was responsible for the West Coast, recently accepted a similar job with the Jets. In New York, Shields will be reunited with Brian Heimerdinger, who was also on the Rams staff before leaving to become the Jets director of player personnel in January.

Shields, a Princeton graduate, worked in various capacities in the Rams scouting department for six years, including the past two covering the West Coast. Heimerdinger and Shields join a revamped front office in New York led by general manager Mike Maccagnan. Maccagnan replaced John Idzik, who was fired at the end of the regular season.

An immediate replacement for Shields in St. Louis is not yet known.
