EARTH CITY, Mo. -- The future of quarterback Robert Griffin III in Washington has come into focus this week after he was benched in favor of Colt McCoy for this week's game against the Indianapolis Colts.

In a pure bit of coincidence, Grantland's Bill Barnwell wrote a piece discussing Griffin's future in Washington (not long, according to Barnwell) and where he might end up should he part ways with the Redskins.

To be clear, Barnwell's piece is purely speculative and sources have indicated to ESPN's Adam Schefter that Washington still has long-term plans for Griffin. But for the purposes of starting out today's Ram-blings, let's take a closer look at one of the teams on the list, the team listed at No. 1 actually. It's the St. Louis Rams.

How would that be for a twisted sense of humor? Griffin ends up on the team that auctioned off the right to draft him in 2012. That would bring things full circle and be worth a good laugh.

But the reality is it's almost certainly not going to happen. There's one key line in the discussion of the Rams and Griffin that must be noted here:

"I wouldn’t make the move if they intend to hold on to offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, but if the Rams found a more imaginative replacement and moved on from Bradford, Griffin would be a logical fit."

Now, anything is possible in the offseason as the Rams proved last year by bringing back Gregg Williams as defensive coordinator. But as we sit here right now, I don't expect the Rams to change offensive coordinators this offseason. Could it happen? Sure. But it doesn't look likely right now. And if that doesn't happen, I agree that Griffin looks like the square peg to the Rams' round hole.

It doesn't look like much of a fit but it's fun to consider and discuss.
