LSU's Miles turning to old pal for help

Remember Les Miles' declaration following LSU's 25-24 loss to Clemson in the Chick-fil-A Bowl?

After watching his Tigers stopped in their tracks offensively, capping a season that saw them finish eighth in the SEC in scoring offense and 10th in total offense, Miles stated the obvious.

"Certainly adjustment needs to be made. We need to get better on offense," Miles said.

Bringing in former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Cam Cameron to run the offense would qualify as an adjustment and one that needs to be made. The Tigers have been dysfunctional offensively in too many key situations over the last two years.

They need a proven guy who can take over the offense and run with it the way John Chavis has with the LSU defense.

Cameron's hiring is expected to be finalized next week. He and Miles go back to their days together on the Michigan staff, and Cameron was a groomsman in Miles' wedding.

Miles has proven that he's not afraid to shake up things on his staff even with the Tigers winning 34 games over the last three seasons. It was an unfortunate break for everybody that Steve Kragthorpe was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease a few months after being hired to run the LSU offense in 2011. Kragthorpe stayed on as quarterbacks coach the last two seasons, and offensive line coach Greg Studrawa pulled double duty and also called plays on offense.

That's never an ideal setup, to have your offensive line coach also coordinating the offense and calling plays.

It appears that Studrawa will remain as LSU's offensive line coach, and Kragthorpe may move to a non-coaching administrative job.

Cameron has a long history in the NFL as an offensive coordinator and was also the Miami Dolphins' head coach for one season in 2007 after Nick Saban left for Alabama. Cameron was fired late this season in Baltimore by coach John Harbaugh. Cameron was also the head coach at Indiana from 1997-2001.
