In an ideal world, every coach would find his quarterback during spring practice. A starter would reveal himself, he'd take the reins and lead the offense during the offseason and everything else would fall into place.

But all too often it doesn't happen that way. Of the many programs in the SEC breaking in new quarterbacks this year, only Auburn was able to name a starter.

Georgia coach Mark Richt would have loved to do the same, but it wasn't in the cards. After G-Day, the race between Brice Ramsey and Faton Bauta was too close to call. He couldn't rule Jacob Park out of it, either.

Right now, the battle is being cast as intangibles versus talent. Ramsey has a "beautiful throwing motion" while Bauta is "the hardest worker of the bunch."

Ultimately it will come down to who shows the best accuracy and makes the best decisions with the football. But, according to Richt, there's more to it than that.

"You also have to be able to handle the pressure of that job,” he said. “And until you get there in front of 90,000 and the millions on television, we don’t know how they’re going to handle the pressure of being the man. So even if we name one guy, those second- and third-team guys better hang onto their hat because they may be in there if the first guy doesn’t handle it well.”
