Eight names the Seahawks might consider in free agency

Denver guard Orlando Franklin was one of the players who looked like a good fit for the Seahawks, but he plans to sign with the San Diego Chargers Tuesday when the free-agent signing period officially begins.

Here are eight players the Seahawks might consider signing:

Cleveland tight end Jordan Cameron: One of the NFL’s most talented tight ends and a guy who played for Pete Carroll at USC. The one question mark with Cameron is a history of concussion problems.

Green Bay cornerback Tramon Williams: Former Pro Bowl player who came to the Packers when Seattle GM John Schneider worked for the Packers.

New York Giants cornerback Walter Thurmond: The former Seahawk only played two games for the Giants last season after tearing a pectoral muscle. Spent his entire career in Seattle before last season. He can play outside or the nickelback spot, but his injury problems are a concern.

Houston wide receiver Andre Johnson: He was released by the Texans on Monday afternoon. They were trying to trade him, which didn't happen, obviously. Johnson isn’t the Pro Bowl player he once was, but he’s still a quality receiver who would be a good mentor to Paul Richardson and Kevin Norwood.

San Diego wide receiver Eddie Royal: Not the big receiver the Seahawks covet, but Royal can return kicks and punts.

San Francisco guard Mike Iupati: The most talented guard available in free agency. If the Seahawks lose James Carpenter in free agency, Iupati would be a major upgrade.

Denver nose tackle Terrance Knighton: This will depend on what the Seahawks do with Brandon Mebane (may need to re-work his contract) and whether they re-sign Kevin Williams. But Knighton is a huge force in the middle of the line.

Chicago defensive tackle Stephen Paea: Not quite the player Knighton is, but a quality DT who could help the Seahawks' interior line.
