Luke Willson wasn't getting caught on Sunday

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Seattle Seahawks tight end Luke Willson had a good reason on why he wasn’t caught from behind by Arizona defenders during his 80-yard catch-and-run TD Sunday night.

“I was looking up at the video screen,” Willson said. “It was like, 'Wow, there’s someone catching me.’ I understand I’m a tight end, but I take a lot of pride when I’m in the open field about not getting caught. Had he [Arizona safety Rashad Johnson] gotten me at my ankles, it would have pretty embarrassing.”

That didn’t happen, as Willson raced down the sideline for the longest TD of his NFL career.

"I always been able to run and that’s why they bought me here,” said Willson, a fifth-round draft choice last year out of Rice. “It was nice to show that off.”

Willson (6-5, 250) had three receptions for 139 yards, including a 20-yard TD in the fourth quarter. He also had a 39-yard reception when Russell Wilson dropped in a perfect pass over two defenders that were chasing Willson.

“All three throws were right on the money,’’ Willson said. “Russell hit me right in stride so I could get out and run.’’

This has been a rough season for the Seattle tight ends. Starter Zach Miller was placed on season-ending injured reserve with a ankle injury. All three other tight ends -- Willson, Cooper Helfet and Tony Moeaki -- have missed games because of injuries.

But Willson sees a trend in his breakout game Sunday.

“The last few weeks I feel like [the tight ends] we’ve been on a nice little run,” Willson said. “I know the media doesn’t think we’re good run-block guys, but we get the job done. I felt [Sunday at Arizona] was the most physical game we’ve played in a while. We were able to bow up to them and that was cool. I’m excited where our position is going now.”
