Prediction: 49ers will beat Seahawks

Remember when San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh broke out his infamous “gobble, gobble, gobble turkey, from jive turkey gobblers” quote just over two years ago to, ahem, quell questions over then-starting quarterback Alex Smith’s confidence?

Yeah, well, to quote Eddie Murphy’s “Trading Places” cell mates, “It ain’t cool being no jive turkey so close to Thanksgiving.”

And with that, we bring you the Niners’ first meeting with the defending Super Bowl champions since the Seattle Seahawks upended them in the NFC title game in January, and Richard Sherman plucked Michael Crabtree in a postgame rant on national television. Yes, the third of three Turkey Day games.

Gobble, gobble, indeed.

Neither Sherman nor Crabtree spoke to local reporters this week but the numbers speak volumes in this series. While this will be the first-ever meeting between the two NFC West rivals at Levi’s Stadium, the 49ers have won five straight at home against the Seahawks. Overall, the home team has won all five meetings, including the playoffs, since Seattle drafted Russell Wilson, with the road team in those games averaging a mere 11.2 points.

Yes, the Seahawks boast the league’s top rushing attack, averaging 169.6 yards per game, and the Niners were gashed for 125 yards by Washington’s Alfred Morris last week.

And yet, usually, you throw stats out the window in such rivalry games. Not this time. Not with the Niners needing this victory at this time more, what with the Seahawks getting the rematch in Seattle in two weeks.

Pass the gravy.
