Prediction: Chargers will handle Dolphins

The San Diego Chargers ’ 32-year winless drought on the road against the Miami Dolphins will come to an end Sunday.

The Chargers (5-3) understand that they need to win this game heading into the bye week in order to set the table for the second half of the season. And while the Dolphins (4-3) are a formidable opponent, Rivers will figure out a way to get his offense into the end zone.

A matchup to watch is San Diego’s big receivers, Keenan Allen and Malcom Floyd, going up against Miami’s smaller corners in Brent Grimes and Cortland Finnegan. Floyd ranks third in the NFL this season with a 19.6 yards-per-catch average and has four catches this season of at least 40 yards. San Diego’s ability to stretch the field vertically with Floyd and Allen should also help loosen things up in the run game for Branden Oliver and Donald Brown.

Defensively, the Chargers will figure out a way to get Miami off of the field on third down and keep them out of the end zone. Miami converts just 38.6 percent of the time offensively on third down, which is No. 22 in the NFL. And San Diego’s defense allows just 18.6 points a contest, No. 4 in the league.

Turnovers also could be an issue. The Dolphins have turned it over seven times in the last four games, while San Diego has just four turnovers in that same time frame. The Dolphins are 1-3 in games that they’ve lost the turnover battle.

My prediction: Chargers 28, Dolphins 20
