Analyzing Kiper Mock 4.0: Chargers

Speed and playmaking ability on both sides of the ball -- major areas of need for the San Diego Chargers -- are addressed in ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper's fourth 2014 mock draft, available today on ESPN Insider.

With the Chargers selecting No. 25 overall and No. 57 in the second round, Kiper pegs two playmakers with speed to burn for San Diego in his two-round mock draft 4.0.

Kiper has the Chargers selecting UCLA edge rusher Anthony Barr at No. 25. At 6-foot-5 and 255 pounds, Barr projects as an outside linebacker in defensive coordinator John Pagano's 3-4 system.

Barr finished with 10 sacks, 20 tackles for loss and six forced fumbles for the Bruins in 2013, so he would be an upgrade for a San Diego defense sorely lacking a consistent pass rush.

Barr ran a 4.66-second 40-yard time at the NFL scouting combine, along with posting a 34-inch vertical jump, so he also is an improvement athletically at the edge rusher position. The Chargers have shown interest in Barr, with a representative from the team watching film with Barr last month before his pro day.

At the No. 57 pick, Kiper tabbed a potential, big-play receiver for San Diego to pair with Keenan Allen in University of Mississippi product Donte Moncrief.

At 6-2 and 221 pounds, Moncrief has speed to take the top off of a defense and the ability to outjump defenders with a 39.5-inch vertical jump. Moncrief led Mississippi in receiving yards and touchdowns for the second year in a row with 59 catches for 938 yards and six touchdowns.
