D.J. Fluker diagnosed with second concussion in five days

SAN DIEGO – San Diego Chargers head coach Mike McCoy confirmed to reporters on Wednesday that offensive lineman D.J. Fluker experienced concussion-like symptoms after his team’s 33-3 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs over the weekend, and is going through the league’s concussion protocol.

It’s the second concussion in five days for Fluker, who suffered a concussion during San Diego’s practice last Wednesday. Fluker did not practice the following two days, but was cleared to play in Sunday’s game.

“He was in the concussion protocol going into the game,” McCoy said. “And he was cleared by an independent neurologist, like everybody is who has that. He came in, and now we’re evaluating him again.”

Fluker was one of six San Diego players who did not practice on Wednesday, along with safety Eric Weddle (groin), tackle King Dunlap (ankle), tight end Ladarius Green (ankle), nose tackle Sean Lissemore (concussion) and defensive tackle Corey Liuget (foot).

Receiver Malcom Floyd returned to practice for the first time since suffering a shoulder injury against the Chicago Bears on Nov. 9. Floyd was a limited participant on Thursday, along with tight end Antonio Gates (hip) and inside linebacker Manti Te’o (ankle).

Floyd also caught passes during a pregame workout before the Kansas City game.

“I thought he looked good,” Philip Rivers said about Floyd. “He had a big smile on his face. Obviously, if you were here for the open part of individuals [drills], he ran around and caught it well.

“I’m certainly hopeful that he can [play]. We’ll see how the week goes. There’s obviously no contact out here, but he looked good. And that certainly would be a boost for us to have him out there.”

Safety Jahleel Addae (concussion) was a full participant after suffering a concussion during the Kansas City game.
