Will NFL hit the pause button on return to L.A.?

Good morning.

Former Oakland Raiders CEO and current CBS analyst Amy Trask talked with Dan Sileo of The Mighty 1090 AM radio in this audio link.

Trask was asked to comment on New York Giants owner John Mara’s statement that at least one team will relocate to Los Angeles in 2016.

Though Trask agrees with Mara’s statement, she said there are rumblings in Los Angeles that the league could wait another year to pursue relocating a franchise back in L.A.

"I have just started hearing murmurings -- and I believe as is the case with many if not most league murmurings, they are planted murmurings -- that maybe, maybe, maybe there won’t be a 2016 resolution," Trask said. "I still believe that there will, but those murmurings have begun."

Trask went on to say the latest the NFL could have some type of resolution on the issue is March of 2016.

My take: Even though she no longer works for the Raiders, Trask remains plugged in to what’s happening with relocation in Los Angeles, so her comments have merit. NFL executive Eric Grubman has said publicly that the league still has several scenarios it is considering with regard to Los Angeles, so Trask’s comments make sense. NFL owners will meet in New York to discuss the relocation issue in October.

Kevin Connaghan of Pro Football Focus gives a thumbs-up to Philip Rivers, Stevie Johnson and Steve Williams in his assessment of San Diego’s performance against the Seattle Seahawks. Outside linebacker Ryan Mueller was San Diego’s top-rated player.

My take: Johnson’s ability to make things happen after the catch was impressive. And as usual, Rivers for the most part got the ball out quick.

Bucky Brooks of NFL.com gives Chargers running back Melvin Gordon a C-plus grade for his performance against the Seahawks.

Brooks: "The 15th overall pick in the 2015NFL Draft needs to be more decisive with the ball in his hands. He frequently hesitated in the hole looking for a bigger crease instead of attacking the game with speed and quickness. Consequently, Gordon finished with a few minimal gains instead of the 4- or 5-yard bursts that were available in the hole."

My take: Agreed, although after going back and watching the game again, I thought Gordon was more effective in getting yards after contact than his first game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Nick Hardwick and Jordan Beane of Chargers.com break down Gordon’s performance in this video.

My take: Hardwick does a nice job of showing the progress Gordon is making, and where there is room for improvement.
