Other than Foles, Eagles healthy for Titans

PHILADELPHIA -- Maybe there is something to Chip Kelly’s sports science program after all.

That seemed less likely as injuries mounted for the Eagles, especially on the offensive line and at inside linebacker. But last year’s aura, in which players seemed protected by the regimen of rest, recovery and nutrition, has been restored to some degree.

Here it is, a frosty Week 12 of the season, and all but one player were fully participating in the past couple days of practice. The exception is quarterback Nick Foles, who is recovering from a fractured collarbone.

Guard Matt Tobin, who passed through the NFL concussion procedures earlier in the week, practiced Thursday and Friday. A total of seven other players were on the injury report. All were full participants in practice.

Those seven: defensive end Brandon Bair (elbow), cornerback Brandon Boykin (hamstring), center Jason Kelce (thumb), linebacker Mychal Kendricks (calf and hamstring), wide receiver Jeff Maehl (foot), safety Chris Maragos (groin) and wide receiver Jordan Matthews (knee).

The biggest impact on Sunday’s game, other than Foles, will involve Tobin. He was cleared to practice Thursday, but did not move back into the starting lineup. Kelly declined to explain if there was a plan at right guard. Andrew Gardner practiced with the first team. It is possible he will start Sunday.

Maehl was inactive in Green Bay Sunday, but that was only partly due to his foot injury. With most of the 53-man roster healthy, the inactive players are often simply chosen by the coaching staff. Maehl is a useful special teams player, but Brad Smith’s return after surgery to repair an abdominal muscle gave the Eagles a similar player -- and one who could also fill in at quarterback, if necessary.

Kelce said his thumb was not the reason for his occasional errant snap, but it might explain what he’s dealing with.

Kendricks missed much of the first half of the season with a calf injury. It is obviously still sore, but Kendricks played well the past two weeks and is expected to start Sunday against Tennessee.
