Report: Eagles release RB Josey

Running back Henry Josey had a terrific preseason, especially for an undrafted rookie free agent who had to overcome a gruesome set of knee injuries suffered at Missouri in 2011.

But the Philadelphia Eagles still decided to release Josey, according to CSNPhilly.com.

Josey rushed for 122 yards in the Eagles' 37-7 victory over the New York Jets in Thursday's preseason finale. Through four exhibition games, Josey had 34 carries for 225 yards and three receptions for 39 yards, including a 27-yard touchdown.

It appears as if Chris Polk and Matthew Tucker have earned the backup running back spots behind LeSean McCoy and Darren Sproles.

If Josey clears waivers, he could be re-signed to the Eagles' practice squad.
