Usually this space is reserved for football, and football only. However, we'll make an exception to take a look at the final standings in the Directors' Cup, which effectively ranks the collective success of athletic departments across the country.
For the 21st consecutive year, Stanford finished atop the standings, thanks largely to NCAA titles in women's golf and women's water polo. It was followed nationally by Pac-12 rivals UCLA in second and USC in third. The Pac-12 had six schools finish in the top-25, with the top three joined by No. 13 Oregon, No. 14 Cal and No. 24 Washington.
Only the 14-team SEC had more top-25 teams (7), but the Pac-12 captured the most national titles (9).
