Oakland Raiders saw Khalil's Mack impact

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- Khalil Mack gave the Oakland Raiders a glimpse of what they were getting during his brilliant career at Buffalo.

The outside linebacker -- who was the No. 5 overall pick in May -- tied the NCAA record for 75 tackles for a loss. Through the first seven games of his NFL career, Mack has 10 tackles for loss, which is tied for the third most in the NFL. While Mack has no sacks, he has been dynamic against the run.

Oakland defensive coordinator Jason Tarver said the Raiders saw a complete player when they studied Mack prior to the draft. Mack said he expects the sacks to start coming along with the excellent run-stuffing ability Mack displays. He had 28.5 sacks in college.

"We really liked is his ability, just as a football player, to really, to be able to do everything," Tarver said. "To be able to bend, uncoil, use his hands, play in space, play on the line, and in college they used him in those situations and you got to see a little bit of everything from him. So, what we liked was the all-around football player with the ability to control edges or control what his environment is around the line of scrimmage, or even off the line of scrimmage. So, we really liked the full package, and then as he continues to develop, he'll learn more and more things about how to beat tackles or how to beat backs or how to beat tight ends and his arrow, he’s going this way, his arrow is going up, so we like the full football player."
