Mailbag: Coaching candidate chatter

Weekend mail call:

Chris from San Diego wants to know if I think Hue Jackson could be a candidate to coach the Raiders again.

Bill Williamson: I’m a never-say-never guy, but the odds are against it. I bet Jackson would be interested. But he burned some bridges on the way out and I just don’t think he’d be a top early candidate.

Dave from Oceanside, California, wants to know if Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly could be a candidate in Oakland.

BW: If Kelly wants to go to the NFL, he may have plenty of suitors. The Raiders would have to pony up a lot for him. But he certainly looks like he could be a quality choice. He has done well everywhere he’s been in college. But, of course, the NFL is a different animal.

Luke from L.A. wants to know if I think Khalil Mack's lack of numbers should be a concern.

BW: Well, he has zero sacks in six games and the Raiders have six sacks as a team. He was drafted at No. 5 to provide a pass rush. So, that is a concern. But there is no concern about Mack overall. He has been terrific against the run. He did great against Arizona with a team-high 11 tackles. He is already a good player and I think he will continue to grow. But the pass rush does need to improve and I think it will. I’m a Mack believer.
