ALAMEDA, Calif. – it appears yet another Oakland Raiders draft pick will have a prominent role Sunday when they open the season at the New York Jets.

Oakland coach Dennis Allen said seventh-round pick TJ Carrie is in the position to be the No. 3 cornerback Sunday, as Chimdi Chekwa is still injured.

Carrie has played a lot with the first unit in the preseason, and the Ohio product shined at times. He will now get the chance to prove himself in the regular season. Carrie joins an impressive list of Oakland rookies who will play a lot Sunday. Quarterback Derek Carr (second round), left guard Gabe Jackson (third round) and No. 5 overall pick, linebacker Khalil Mack, will start.

Jackson is at left guard with Khalif Barnes moving to right tackle. He took the place of second-year player Menelik Watson. He is still dealing with an injury, but it is clear the Raiders like this current look better. Watson, a second-round pick last year, will have to chance to earn his way into the starting lineup, but if Jackson and Barnes play well in their roles, it would be difficult seeing the Raiders moving from this current lineup.

In other Oakland notes:

• Starting middle linebacker Nick Roach has yet to be cleared from suffering a concussion Aug. 22 at Green Bay. Allen said he was set to go through more concussion protocol tests Tuesday afternoon. He can’t play until he’s cleared.

• Allen said signs were pointing towards second-string tight end David Ausberry playing Sunday. He returned to practice Monday after sitting out a few weeks.

• Cornerback Taiwan Jones returned to practice after missing a few weeks with a knee injury. The special teams ace should be on pace to play Sunday barring a setback.

• Allen is hopeful defensive end Benson Mayowa can become a rotational pass-rusher. The Raiders like what they’ve seen from him on film. He was claimed off waivers from Seattle on Sunday.
