Derek Carr makes Titans pay for penalty as Raiders snap skid

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Titans bailed out Derek Carr, and then he made them pay for it.

Carr hit Seth Roberts for a 12-yard touchdown with just more than a minute remaining to give the Oakland Raiders a 24-21 win at Tennessee, their first victory in four games.

Carr looked like he was going to be the goat when the Titans took the lead after he fumbled a snap in Tennessee territory.

Then the Raiders looked like they were in danger of losing when Carr couldn’t connect with Andre Holmes on fourth-and-8 with a throw to the end zone. But the Titans were called for defensive holding. It gave Oakland a first down and new life. Two plays later, they scored the game-winning TD.

Carr made the plays when he had to for Oakland, which snapped a three-game losing streak to improve to 5-6. Tennessee is 2-9 and every bit a 2-9 team. But the Raiders did what they had to and beat a bad team. If they would have fallen to 4-7, it could have been a very ugly time around Oakland.

One reason to get excited: Cornerback David Amerson had a great game as he replaced former first-round pick DJ Hayden. Amerson had six pass breakups and an interception. Amerson, a waiver pickup, is a pretty nice player.

One reason to panic: The Raiders didn’t run the ball very well. Latavius Murray had just 59 yards on 22 carries. It’s been several weeks since Oakland has been effective on the ground.

Fantasy watch: Roberts had 112 yards on six catches and two touchdowns. For now, he looks like the No. 3 receiver over Holmes.

Ouch: The Raiders didn’t have any injuries of note, though Carr left the game for one play on the first drive after taking a big hit. He did not seem affected by it the rest of the game.
