Raiders' offense fails to build on big Week 3 performance

After an explosive Week 3 performance in Cleveland, the Oakland Raiders' offense had to be considered one of the most intriguing young groups in the NFL.

Quarterback Derek Carr, 24, threw for 314 yards, running back Latavius Murray, 25, ran for 139 yards, and rookie receiver Amari Cooper, 21, had 134 receiving yards. They were the youngest trio to ever accomplish the 300-yard, 100-yard and 100-yard feat.

All week, the talk was about the potential for this group. But what happened Sunday in Chicago? The trio fell flat.

Oakland's offense was inconsistent, and it couldn't get in a rhythm. Carr threw for 196 yards, Cooper had four catches for 49 yards, and Murray had the worst day of the group.

Murray had 49 yards on 16 carries. He bobbled a pass play that was intercepted and lost a fourth-quarter fumble. Murray was replaced by Roy Helu on the Raiders' final drive.

Murray, who has yet to find consistency in his young NFL career, took ownership Sunday.

"I will be better," he said.

Is there cause to worry about this young group after what occurred in Chicago? I don't think so. There will be plenty of great moments ahead this season for Carr, Cooper and Murray.

But there will also be plenty of growing pains. These three players represent a strong future for the Raiders. But in the meantime, there will be rough spots such as Sunday's rocky performance.
