Looking at Round 2 WR options for Raiders

Earlier in the week, we looked at the positional issue facing the Oakland Raiders with the No. 4 pick.

Because they didn’t address their two biggest needs – wide receiver and pass-rusher – in free agency, Oakland has a choice on its hands. I think they may lean toward a receiver such as Alabama’s Amari Cooper or West Virginia’s Kevin White in the first round, partly because of their skills and a bigger need.

However, the receiver group is deep. Oakland could opt to take Florida pass-rusher Dante Fowler at No. 4 (and they almost certainly will take USC defensive lineman Leonard Williams if he unexpectedly falls out of the top three) and grab a receiver in the second round.

There are some risks because Oakland needs immediate impact at receiver. Cooper or White would supply that. There’s no certainty a receiver picked in the second round will make an immediate contribution.

But there’s some interesting names, including Phillip Dorsett of Miami, Breshad Perriman of Central Florida, Jaelen Strong of Arizona State, Devin Smith of Ohio State, Dorial Green-Beckham, formerly of Missouri, Devin Funchess of Michigan and Sammie Coates of Auburn.

Some of these players may go late in the first round, but I could see a few available at No. 35. Two of the more interesting players are Green-Beckham and Perriman. Green-Beckham has the body and skills of a top-10 pick, but there are character red flags. Oakland general manager Reggie McKenzie has, for the most part, stayed away from those types of players. Perriman put up an astounding 4.2 40-yard dash time at his pro day.

He needs polish a receiver, but he is tempting, Thus, this is all part of the Raiders’ early-draft dilemma.
