Sergei Gonchar offered tryout by Penguins

Veteran defenseman Sergei Gonchar, 41, has been offered a training camp tryout by the Pittsburgh Penguins, a source confirmed to ESPN.com Friday morning.

Gonchar spent five seasons with the Penguins, including their back-to-back runs to the Stanley Cup finals in 2008 and 2009, winning his first and only Stanley Cup with the team in 2009.

Since then, Gonchar has played for the Ottawa Senators, Dallas Stars and Montreal Canadiens. Gonchar was obtained by the Canadiens in a trade for Travis Moen last season and played in just 45 games for the Habs. he is an unrestricted free agent with 1,301 regular-season NHL games to his credit.
