The Montreal Canadiens re-signed Jeff Petry and Torrey Mitchell after the season ended, which fueled speculation they might need to move money.

But general manager Marc Bergevin says that’s not the case.

"We’re fine with the cap, we have no problem with the money, we’re good. We’ll sign Chucky and move on," Bergevin said Saturday, referring to restricted free agent forward Alex Galchenyuk.

In the meantime, Bergevin doesn’t feel a particular need to make a move, but he’s always open to an opportunity.

"I’m always listening," said Bergevin. "Obviously our strength is our goalie and our defense. If we could add some scoring, it would be nice. But again, there’s not much cap flexibility. We have some kids that are pushing in the minors. So we’ll see what happens at camp. But I’ll keep my ears and eyes open [on the trade market]. ... I’m comfortable with the team we have."

As for the opening of the free-agent market Wednesday, Bergevin doesn’t plan on being too busy.

"Jeff and Torrey, that’s my July 1. I’m not going to chase players July 1," he said. "Again, we’ll look and see what happens."
