Rapid Reaction: Lightning 3, Red Wings 2 (OT)

DETROIT -- The Tampa Bay Lightning rallied late from a two-goal deficit to pull out a critical 3-2 overtime win over the Detroit Red Wings, evening the series at 2-2.

How it happened: Tyler Johnson scored his second goal of the game on a great feed from Victor Hedman to stun the Red Wings in overtime. Detroit appeared in control, with Petr Mrazek outplaying Tampa’s Ben Bishop and managing a 2-0 lead for a majority of the game. But Johnson’s goal at the 14:34 mark of the third period was followed quickly by an Ondrej Palat goal 1:17 later transformed the series. Those goals broke a shutout streak for the Red Wings against Tampa Bay at Joe Louis Arena that stretched back nine periods to a regular-season game in November.

What it means: It’s huge. Instead of heading back to Tampa Bay one loss away from elimination, the Lightning have evened this series and head home to where they had 32 wins during the regular season. They’ve reclaimed home-ice advantage away from a Detroit team that appeared to have a significant edge on home ice -- until the late Tampa Bay breakthrough.

Player of the game: Tyler Johnson. No doubt about it. He scored the game-winner and, until he scored late in the third period, it looked like the Lightning would never break through on the road. That goal gave the Lightning the jump and was followed quickly by Palat’s goal, which extended the game and potentially the Lightning’s season.

Stat of the game: 0 -- the number of goals for Steven Stamkos in this game and in this series. But with the Lightning’s late rally and overtime win, it becomes less of a concern, and it's impressive that Tampa has managed a split without any goal-scoring from their captain. Assuming he’s healthy, it’s only a matter of time before he gets going.

What’s next: Game 5 is Saturday in Tampa Bay, with the starting time still to be determined.
