Rapid Reaction: Canadiens 3, Senators 2 (OT)

MONTREAL -- A quick take on Game 2 of the Ottawa Senators-Montreal Canadiens series:

THE DEFINING PLAY: Alex Galchenyuk's turnaround shot 3:40 into overtime somehow got through Andrew Hammond, giving the Canadiens a 3-2 win. The puck squeezed under Hammond’s right arm.

THE RETURN OF MAX: Montreal star winger Max Piacioretty made his return from a concussion after missing three games and got a rousing ovation when his name was announced pregame. He made his return count, tying the game at 1 by beating Hammond five-hole 7:18 into the second period on a Habs power play. And his head must be fine, since he threw himself into the boards in his goal celebration. He was named the second star of the game.

STONE GUTS IT OUT: Mark Stone, who has a microfracture and ligament damage in his right wrist, was a game-time decision for the Senators and could barely shoot a puck in warm-ups. But the uber-talented Sens rookie winger indeed got the green light, no doubt getting his right hand/wrist frozen up while also wearing a protective device on it. Well, a Mark Stone not at 100 percent is still a good option, obviously, the winger chipping in with two assists. The kid has heart, man.

THE SUBBAN-ATOR: The Senators felt P.K. Subban should have been suspended for his two-handed slash on Stone in Game 1, so you can imagine how they felt seeing the star blueliner hammer a shot past Hammond to put Montreal up 2-1 at 16:30 of the second period and then putting on an all-world goal celebration. Subban was named the first star of the game.

NO ROUGH STUFF: After the fireworks of Game 1, one wondered what was in store for Game 2. But while it was a hard-hitting game, everything was between the lines -- no controversial or dirty plays -- which is what you want to see.

THE HAMBURGLAR WAS FINE: Hammond appeared shaky at times in Game 1, but he played a solid game Friday night. I didn’t like the OT goal he allowed but otherwise thought he was fine.

WHAT'S NEXT: The Habs are up 2-0 in their best-of-seven series. Game 3 is Sunday evening at 7 p.m. ET at the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa.
