Bryan Murray went for a car ride with an old pal Monday in Detroit.

Former Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson invited Murray along for a little ride about town, allowing the two to catch up.

"I ran into him today and he asked me what I was doing and he said, 'Let’s go for a drive.' It was nice," the Senators GM told ESPN.com Monday ahead of his team’s game against the Red Wings.

Just goes to show that despite Alfredsson’s dramatic exit from Ottawa before signing with the Detroit Red Wings in the summer of 2013, time heals all wounds.

"Alfie and I have had a good relationship over the years, in spite of all that was said or written," Murray said.

"It was good to see him and talk to him again today."

And if Alfredsson confided anything about his own playing future -- it’s widely believed he has played his last NHL game -- Murray was not going to share it.

Alfredsson, like so many others, wanted to know how Murray was doing; the veteran hockey man is fighting cancer and bravely talked about it recently with Michael Farber in a TSN interview.

Murray plans to be with the team for four of their five games on this road trip, heading back home to Ottawa after the game in Tampa to get some blood work done and undergo more chemotherapy.

"I feel good; the only thing that has bothered me at all is a little fatigue at times, a little more than normal," Murray said. "Obviously the energy level is not quite as high as it was. For the most part, I feel good and I continue to do what I do -- and hope to continue it for a while."
