Scott Hartnell played for the Philadelphia Flyers for seven seasons, so facing his former squad on Friday night is stirring up some emotions of being traded in the offseason.

And the Flyers former alternate captain is assigning some of the blame to his old coach Craig Berube.

“I respect his opinion and stuff, but I don’t know,” Hartnell told the Courier-Post of South Jersey. “You think of what happened or, ‘Why me?’ to get traded or whatever. I’m sure [Berube] had a big part of that or a big opinion in whether to part ways or not. But I’m not going to sit here and worry about it and lose sleep over it, that’s for sure.”

Berube brushed off Hartnell’s comments and said he doesn’t have input on trades.

“I’m sure all trades players think, ‘Well, this guy didn’t like me or that guy didn’t like me or whatever,” Berube said, according to the report. “That doesn’t bother me. Nothing bothers me.”

Philadelphia general manager Ron Hextall said the trade was mostly about salary-cap issues. Hartnell is in the second season of a six-year deal worth $28.5 million.

“I understand that totally and it just hurt my ego,” Hartnell told the Courier-Post. “I thought I’d play the rest of my career out there and the change in a week was hard to take.”

The Blue Jackets have struggled with injuries all season and are last in the Metropolitan Division. The Flyers are fifth in the same division.
