* Sidney Crosby (PIT); 2 goals; 57th career multi-goal game (3rd most in franchise history).

* Marc-Andre Fleury (PIT): 34th career win with 4 goals allowed; most among active players .

* From Elias: Perry is only the third NHL player in the last 33 years to produce a hat trick in a season-opening game that his team lost. The other players to do that since 1981 were Buffalo’s Alexander Mogilny in October 1992 (vs. Quebec) and Washington’s Mikhail Grabovski last year (at Chicago).

* Rick Nash (NYR): 2 goals; 10th multi-goal game since 2012-13 (no other Ranger has more than 4).

* From Elias: Rick Nash snapped a 2-2 tie with 1:50 left to play in regulation time by scoring his second goal of the game. The Rangers scored only two tiebreaking goals in the final two minutes of a third period all last season, and both of those late go-ahead goals were scored by Nash: on January 10 against Dallas (18:02) and April 10 against Buffalo (18:18).

* From Elias: Corey Crawford made 32 saves and stopped all three shots he faced in a shootout. Crawford has now won his last six games in Dallas dating back to March 2012, and he held the Stars to only one or two goals in each game while fashioning a 1.45 goals-against average
