NFL Rumor Central: Stephon Gilmore to skip OTAs

According to Tyler Dunne of the Buffalo News, Buffalo Bills cornerback Stephon Gilmore won't be in attendance when the team begins organized team activities Monday, instead choosing to train on his own while seeking a contract extension.

All of the Bills' workouts this week are voluntary, as are OTAs in each of the next two weeks, so it seems likely Gilmore will be absent for some time unless he signs a new deal. Gilmore -- who is entering the final year of his rookie contract -- would face potential fines if he were absent for the team's mandatory minicamp in mid-June.

Two huge free-agent deals helped re-shape the cornerback market this offseason: Janoris Jenkins signed with the New York Giants for five years and $62.5 million ($28.8 million guaranteed), and Josh Norman got $75 million over five years ($50 million guaranteed) from the Washington Redskins despite hitting the market six weeks after free agency began.

Norman's figure -- the largest ever for a cornerback -- is likely well out of reach, but a deal similar to Jenkins' seems like a reasonable target for Gilmore. Jenkins and Gilmore have both been regular starters since being drafted in 2012, but neither has been selected to a Pro Bowl. Gilmore was taken 29 picks ahead of Jenkins in 2012 at 10th overall and is set to make about $11 million in 2016 on the fifth-year option of his rookie deal.

The Bills have nearly $14 million in cap space after signing franchise-tagged left tackle Cordy Glenn to an extension earlier this month.
