Will QB Derek Carr start in Week 1?

The Oakland Raiders spent much of the summer trying to convince their fans that Matt Schaub would somehow rebound from his final disastrous season with the Houston Texans and lead the team to wins. However, as the season nears, it appears that coach Dennis Allen is starting to have his doubts.

Schaub missed the Raiders' preseason finale with an elbow injury, while rookie Derek Carr completed 11 of 13 passes for 143 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions.

So, who will start Week 1 against the New York Jets?

Allen had little to say about the matter after the game, but he notably didn't stand firmly behind Schaub.

"Let's not bury our head in the sand," Allen said. "But I haven't changed anything. I think we're in good shape where we're at with all of our quarterbacks and I feel good about being in the position we're in."

Nonetheless, ESPN Raiders reporter Bill Williamson thinks the rook will get the nod.

"#Raiders Allen won't say it but my guess is we see Carr against Jets," Williamson tweeted.

Allen has his work cut out trying to coax wins out of the Raiders' under-talented roster:

"No. 32: Would Vince Lombardi win with these Raiders? Hue Jackson did go 8-8 not too long ago, but if Allen is in over his head, it's only fair to acknowledge the deep and treacherous nature of the waters in Oakland. 'If you gave him the Colts, he might have been good, too,' one executive said. 'It is completely unfair to measure him. He has potential. He could be a guy who reemerges 7-8 years from now and becomes pretty good. Objectively, he is a 4. But no other new coach would do better there.'"
