Dockett to decide on future while drawing interest from NFC West teams

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Darnell Dockett's foray into free agency has taken him to San Francisco.

And it may lead him on a tour of the NFC West.

He visited the San Francisco 49ers on Tuesday and was expected to decide Wednesday between re-signing with the Arizona Cardinals or playing for the Niners, according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. As Schefter also reported, Dockett has drawn interest from Seattle and St. Louis, and may meet with both teams, as well.

According to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Rams and Dockett's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, have talked.

Dockett was released by Arizona on Friday.

Cardinals coach Bruce Arians was asked on NFL Network on Wednesday morning about the chances Dockett returns to Arizona.

"I hope," Arians said. "Darnell knows how I feel about him personally and about him as a player. It's the hard part of the business. I get very attached to guys so I let that part up to [Cardinals general manager] Steve Keim and his people.

"Darnell knows how we stand and where we stand and how we feel about him."

The Arizona Republic reported Monday that Arizona is "believed" to have offered Dockett a contract worth at least $2.5 million with a maximum value of $4 million because of incentives.

Dockett, who'll turn 34 in May, was scheduled to earn $6.8 million in 2015, a year after missing the 2014 season because of a torn ACL.

After releasing Dockett, Keim said the move "allows each to keep all of its options open."
