Seahawks' Malcolm Smith a full participant in practice

RENTON, Wash. -- Seahawks outside linebacker Malcolm Smith (groin) and tight end Cooper Helfet (knee) returned as full participants in practice Thursday, and tight end Luke Willson (ankle) was back on the field as a limited participant.

Five players did not practice: running back Marshawn Lynch (calf and rib), left guard James Carpenter (ankle), rookie middle linebacker Brock Coyle (glute), nickelback Jeremy Lane (groin) and defensive back Marcus Burley (hamstring).

Lynch often rests from practice sessions during the week, but this is the first time he’s been listed with a rib injury.

Lane came off of injured reserve and played last weekend for the first time since the season opener. Carpenter did not play last weekend because of the ankle sprain. Alvin Bailey will start again at left guard if Carpenter doesn’t play.

With starting middle linebacker Bobby Wagner still out with a turf toe injury, the Seahawks will move weakside linebacker K.J. Wright inside to start in the middle if Coyle can’t play. The team signed Allen Bradford Wednesday as a backup at middle linebacker.

“I can’t say enough about K.J. and his versatility,’’ Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn said. “I think it starts with him having really good football instincts."

Quinn said both Smith and rookie Kevin Pierre-Louis will play at Wright’s weakside spot if Wright starts in the middle.
