Seeking information on Percy Harvin's hip

RENTON, Wash. -- The Seattle Seahawks opened training camp Thursday without Percy Harvin and six other injured players. No big deal? That depends upon what the team finds out about Harvin's hip.

Coach Pete Carroll, addressing reporters following practice, offered few specifics. He indicated the discomfort Harvin was experiencing centered around the labrum area. A labral tear, if detected, can sometimes require arthroscopic surgery, but Carroll said the team needed more information.

Harvin was working out at full speed within the past few days, Carroll said. Carroll also said the team wasn't particularly worried at this stage because so much time remained before the regular season. Still, Harvin's status will always be big news after Seattle acquired him from Minnesota for draft picks, including a 2013 first-rounder, before signing the receiver to a lucrative contract.
