Roddy White rips IOC for wrestling decision

Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White is angry and it has nothing to do with football.

White, one of the NFC South’s most active Twitter users, took to that venue Tuesday to rip the International Olympic Committee for its decision to drop wrestling starting in 2020.

“IOC come on seriously wrestling is a sport that almost every country does and you drop it(?)" White said in one of several tweets on the topic.

There are a lot of people out there (particularly in New Orleans) that think White is a loose cannon. It’s true White can be outspoken. But, sometimes, his opinions are worth hearing. That’s the case in this situation.

For context, you need to know wrestling is near and dear to White’s heart. He was a championship wrestler in high school in South Carolina. He also has spent time in the past observing workouts of the U.S. Olympic wrestling team.

I’m with White on this one. I think it’s a shame wrestling is being dropped from the Olympics. I grew up in an area of Pennsylvania where high school wrestling was bigger than basketball. Some of my best friends were wrestlers and I always admired the discipline and commitment that the sport required.

I have no doubt White’s wrestling background has contributed to his success in the NFL.
