Kyle Rudolph participates in practice, appears on track for Sunday

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- After a practice in which everyone on their active roster took part, the Minnesota Vikings listed just two names on their first injury report of the week: tight ends Kyle Rudolph and Chase Ford.

Rudolph was the Vikings' only limited participant in practice, and he still seems on track to return from sports hernia surgery on Sunday against the Chicago Bears. He spent much of the team's bye week in the Twin Cities doing rehab work and was a limited participant in practice on Wednesday.

"Last week on Monday, I was able to go out there and get my feet wet, but today was the first full day for me, going through game-plan meetings, and then coming out here and practicing," Rudolph said. "It feels good to be back out here. I'm excited to be back and do what I can to help this team win and stay on a roll. I'd like to think that with the work we've put in over the last seven weeks, I've put myself in a great position."

Rudolph's return would add another element to the Vikings' passing game as they face a Bears team that's allowed more passing touchdowns than any team in the league, and he could team with Ford to give Teddy Bridgewater two solid receiving options in the Vikings' two-tight end sets. Ford was a full participant in practice on Wednesday, but was still listed on the injury report with his lingering foot injury.

Rudolph was on the field for more than 90 percent of the Vikings' snaps in the first two games of the season, before he got hurt in the second half on Sept. 21 against New Orleans. If he's ready to return on Sunday -- which appears likely at this point -- he hopes to resume his full role in the Vikings' offense.

"It was extremely important for me, when I get back out there, that I'm my old self," he said. "I don't want to be out there if I'm not as good as I can be. If I can't help us win, I'm not only disrespecting myself, but all the guys I go to battle with. It's extremely important for me that if I'm out there, I'm playing at a really high level."
