Further testing on Sharrif Floyd's knee

Some of you have inquired about the health of Minnesota Vikings first-round draft pick Sharrif Floyd, who injured his left knee on a low block during Friday's preseason opener.

Here's what I can tell you: Although coach Leslie Frazier continues to downplay the injury, the team did decide Sunday to administer an MRI exam because of continued soreness over the weekend.

"From everything I've been told," Frazier told reporters Sunday, "it's just sore, so we're going to err on the side of caution. He fell on the knee. He was pretty sore this morning. The fact that he was sorer than he was yesterday [made] us decide that we need to make sure there's nothing else going on."

Floyd played 15 snaps Friday night before suffering the injury, showing up most notably when he crashed through the line and tackled running back Dennis Johnson for a one-yard loss. He obviously didn't practice Sunday and you would have to think his availability for Friday's preseason game at the Buffalo Bills is in question. The rest of his preseason likely will be determined by results of the MRI. Stay tuned.
