Day 36: Break out the first baseman's mitt

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- We will get a relatively rare look at Nathan Eovaldi versus big-league hitters today -- he has made three starts this spring, but none since March 15 as Joe Girardi has been using him in minor-league games -- but the real curiosity today is seeing Alex Rodriguez play first base in a game for the first time at any level of his career, including high school. A-Rod is hitting cleanup in today's lineup, and he will have the help and support of the regular Yankees infield, minus Didi Gregorius (wrist sprain). No TV or radio today, but you can follow all the developments via my Twitter timeline, @ESPNNYankees.

Here's the lineup:

Brendan Ryan SS

Chase Headley 3B

John Ryan Murphy C

Rodriguez 1B

Stephen Drew 2B

Rob Refsnyder DH

Ramon Flores RF

Slade Heathcott CF

Jonathan Galvez LF

Eovaldi RHP

Eovaldi has allowed a run and seven hits, struck out nine and walked none in nine innings this spring. ... Gregorius said his left wrist, injured when he rolled over on it diving for a hit Saturday, felt better Sunday morning. He was not scheduled to do anything but treatment and Girardi said the plan is for him to return to the field in Wednesday afternoon's home game against the Rays. ... Mark Teixeira was plunked on the right knee with a pitch in a minor-league game in Tampa this morning, but Girardi said no tests were planned. Tex was seen limping as he left the game but told reporters who were there he was OK. ... Adam Warren has still not been officially announced as the fifth starter, but this morning the Yankees moved two of the other candidates, optioning Bryan Mitchell to Triple-A Scranton and releasing Scott Baker from his minor-league contract, although GM Brian Cashman said the Yankees hoped to re-sign Baker to another minor-league deal if Baker can't latch on with another team. They also re-assigned RHP Kyle Davies to minor-league camp and he is expected to start for Scranton.
