Ibanez could be a candidate for the vacant hitting-coach spot, as the New York Post reported. A source said the Yankees could consider Ibanez for the hitting-coach spot or another role. The Yankees let go hitting coach Kevin Long and first base/infield coach Mick Kelleher nearly three weeks ago.

The Yankees had talked with Chili Davis and Dave Magadan about the hitting-coach position. Davis decided to sign with Boston as its hitting coach. Magadan lost out, according to a source, because he did not impress in an interview and was too chirpy about the process with the media.

Ibanez was not on the Royals' active roster during the World Series. During the season, Ibanez, 42, hit .167 with five homers and 26 RBIs in 90 games. He made $2.75 million. For his career, he has earned more than $66 million, according to Baseball-Reference.com.

A coaching position with the Yankees would likely pay anywhere from $150,000 to $700,000.
