The New York Rangers announced Tuesday morning that Darryl Williams has been added to Alain Vigneault's coaching staff, where he will join associate head coach Scott Arniel, assistant coach Ulf Samuelsson and goaltending coach Benoit Allaire.

Williams, 46, comes on board after spending the past six seasons as an assistant coach with the Vancouver Canucks, where Vigneault coached from 2006 to 2013.

Williams, who has also coached in the American Hockey League and United Hockey League, was in charge of video duties for the Canucks, who recently announced they had hired Ben Cooper as their video coach.

Though there was speculation at season's end that Samuelsson may get a sniff at head coaching gigs elsewhere, assistant coach Dan LaCroix was the one to move on from the 2013-14 squad that made a surprising run to the Stanley Cup finals.

LaCroix left the Rangers to become part of the Montreal Canadiens' coaching staff earlier this summer.
